Overview

On September 25, 1981, Sukanta Mahavidyalaya began operations as a government-sponsored, NAAC-accredited higher education institution. It is situated in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri city of Sukanta Nagar. Serving the educational needs of students from the enigmatic Dooars, this academic institution was one of the first higher education institutions in both North and West Bengal. A heart tired of the confines of the city is soothed by Sukanta Mahavidyalaya's panoramic view of the surrounding area, which is surrounded by lovely green fields on the borders of the Dooars.

This university offers undergraduate humanities and science (general and honours) courses in 14 subjects on its 10 acres of property. The majority of the 6000 pupils who attend this school come from the neighbourhoods nearby. The college's undergraduate programmes began using the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in 2018, despite the fact that the institution still follows the University of North Bengal's curriculum.

The Directorate of Distance Education at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, coordinates the teaching of postgraduate courses in addition to regular undergraduate courses at this higher education institution. It has been in place at this institution since 2004. This college branch's Netaji Subhas Open University branch has recently built a study centre to offer distance learning for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

The institution has six ICT-equipped classrooms and one virtual classroom. Students and staff at the college have free WiFi connection available all across the campus.
