Overview

One of the twenty-three Indian Institutes of Technology organisations designated as Centres of Excellence for training, research, and development in science, engineering, and technology in India is the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.

The institution had been completed as a college of engineering in 1961, but under the "Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963," the Institute was later designated as an Institution of National Importance and changed its name to "Indian Institute of Technology Delhi." It was then given the title of "Deemed University" with the authority to establish its academic policies, hold its exams, and confer its degrees.

Over 48000 people have earned degrees from IIT Delhi across a range of fields since it was founded in 1961, including engineering, physical sciences, management, and humanities & social sciences. 5070 of these alumni went on to acquire PhDs. Since then, more than 15738number students have earned a B.Tech. degree. The remaining students hold master's degrees in business administration, engineering, and other related fields.

These Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi graduates are currently employed as researchers, technologists, business executives, and entrepreneurs. There are many graduates who have left their initial fields of study and are now working for NGOs, active in politics, or in administrative roles. They have made significant contributions to the development of this country's technological infrastructure as well as to global industrialization.
