Overview

In February 1982, Bharathidasan University was established and named in honour of the Tamil poet Bharathidasan (1891-1964). The words of the poem by Bharathidasan serve as the inspiration for the university's motto, "We will create a bold new world." By establishing a daring new universe of educational innovation for social transformation in the area, the university aspires to stay faithful to such a goal. The primary campus of the university was once situated in Palkalaiperur on a property of more than 1000 hectares. Bharathidasan University received an overall score of 82 and a university ranking of 57 in the NIRF Ranking 2022.

The South Campus in Palkalaiperur and the current infrastructure, however, were donated to the recently established Anna University of Technology over time. The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Tiruchirappalli, was recently given responsibility for a different region of the world. The Autonomous Post-Graduate Center of the University of Madras in Tiruchirappalli is located on the university's Khajamalai downtown campus.

The Mathematics Schools, Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Basic Medical Science, Geosciences, Social Sciences, Marine Science, and Language Schools are some of the academic departments on the Bharathidasan University campus. The site also features a Central Library, an Informatics Center for the University, Hostels, Staff Quarters, a Health Center, a Canteen, and more.

The Departments of Social Development, Computer Science, the Hearing Center, the UGC-Human Resource Development Center (Former UGC-Academic Staff College), and other departments are located on the downtown campus. In addition, the Bharathidasan Institute of Management, better known as BIM, is situated inside the BHEL buildings, a government organisation functioning in Thiruverumbur and regarded as one of the greatest business schools in the nation. 37 departments, 16 schools, 4 faculties, and 29 specialised research institutions make up the university.

2564 students and scholars are being taught by 263 faculty members at the university. The 151 programmes offered by Bharathidasan University, including 40 PG programmes in M.A., M.Sc., and M.Tech, etc., are very well-liked by students. The aforementioned programs—31 M.Phil., 33 PhD, 19 PG Diploma, 11 Diploma, and 10 certificates—are delivered through the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) over the course of semesters. The university can accommodate 457 employees. The university provides 15 UG and 26 PG programmes as part of its Long Teaching Program in addition to the regular teaching programmes in Departments and schools. Admissions to Bharathidasan University are currently being accepted for the 2022–2023 academic year.

A number of undergraduate courses are offered at Bharathidasan University. Courses at Bharathidasan University are offered in a variety of fields, including journalism, computer science, business administration, and the humanities. The right degree is required for admission to the BDU degree programmes. The Bachelor of Journalism, B.Lib.I.Sc., and other preparatory degrees last one year, while the typical UG courses last three years.

For grade study, Bharathidasan University offers a selection of PG programmes. The topics are covered in media, business, science, and other fields. The institute also provides PG programmes and PG Diploma courses in a variety of subjects. The PG Diploma course lasts one year, while the BDU PG programme is two years long.

According to the NIRF Report for the year 2022, 876 students from a variety of UG and PG programmes attended the on-campus placement drive at Bharathidasan University in the year 2021. 260 of them received job offers as a result of the on-campus hiring drive. For undergraduate programmes, the median pay package was Rs. 1.53 lakhs per year, and for graduate programmes, it was Rs. 1.99 lakhs per year.
